Mermaid Cake

This cake is an 8" cake made for a little girl's birthday. It's moist chocolate with chocolate buttercream. Yum! The birthday girl wanted an underwater theme for her birthday, with a mermaid and, of course, a soccer ball.

This cake was really fun to make because of the detail. The treasure chest, the algae, coral, etc. were particularly interesting.

Everything on the cake is edible... (and delicious!)

We hope the birthday girl likes her cake!

Two If By Sea

Not sure how many of you have been to Two If By Sea (TIBS), an amazing little cafe in downtown Dartmouth, but if you haven't, yet, you MUST go have one of their croissants. They are hands down the best croissants in the city. This is an endorsement from Joanne, which goes a long way, since she grew up on real French boulangeries (bakeries).

So, one of their employees, Craig, is about to leave the city to go away to grad school. His parents ordered a dozen cupcakes to send him off and wanted them for the staff at TIBS. This was a lot of pressure: baking for bakers! But, with their fun and whimsical logos, it was a challenge we couldn't pass up.

The cupcakes are moist chocolate with an almond buttercream.
Check out their website to see their goodies, and get a glimpse of our inspiration.

Good luck, Craig!

Pretty Flowers

One of Joanne's colleagues, Michelle, got married, this month! At the office, they held a wedding shower and so we thought we would use the opportunity to experiment with some of our new purchases from Golda's.
We used the chocolate fondant, for the first time! It tastes like tootsie roll! SO yummi!

We also used a new impression mat with pretty little swirls to add some texture.

The cupcakes are moist chocolate with a small dollop of vanilla buttercream to make the fondant stick. Each little cake was topped with a flower.

Congrats, Michelle & Murray!

Burberry Baby

We got an order for a dozen cupcakes made special for a mom-to-be who loves dressing her babies in designer duds. When her friend was thinking about cupcakes for her shower, she immediately thought about incorporating some Burberry plaid into the mix. These cupcakes are Limoncello with a Limoncello and lemon zest buttercream. The toppers are bibs and onesies made of fondant with the traditional beige Burberry plaid and others in blue plaid; mom-to-be is expecting her second little boy. When we're ready for babies, we might just have to make these!

Rad 80's Cupcakes

One of our clients was hosting an 80's party and asked us to come up with four dozen cupcakes to go with the theme.

We decided to go citrus with the flavours: Chocolate cupcakes with orange buttercream and vanilla cupcakes with lemon buttercream! Yum!

The toppers are a variety of 80's staples: Rubik's cubes, cassettes, Michael Jackson's sequin gloves, Pacman, etc.

The photo is a little bit blurry, sorry!

Also, here is a photo of a cupcake next to a real Rubik's cube. Joanne used it as a guide and after spending a little too long trying to solve it, Sachin had to take it away. She'll stick to cupcakes, from now on!
