Paisley Party!

This cake was fun to make. It's a two tiered cake with paisley all over!

The bottom tier is Sachin's delicious, moist chocolate cake (three layers of cake with marzipan and almond buttercream between each layer) and the top tier is a white, vanilla pound cake (also three layers with the marzipan and almond buttercream).

Each little paisley has texture on it and the silver balls add a little pizazz.

Bachelorette Cake

We got a call for a bachelorette cake! The bride-to-be's favourite colour is purple, so we went with a fun and funky little 8" cake with flowers and silver accents.

The cake is a moist chocolate cake with marzipan between the layers and almond buttercream throughout.

We hope the girls have a good time and keep things a little tamer than Joanne's bachelorette.. ahem, I mean, Joanne had a tea party with her girlfriends, that's all. Really.

World Cup Soccer Fever

It's that time, again! If any of you know Joanne, you know she's cheering for France, but this week, we got an order for some Italia cupcakes!

The only guideline we were given was that they be "cutesy" so we went with it :)

The cupcakes are double chocolate with a vanilla icing. The toppers are made with fondant.

(Allez les bleus!)

Baby Shower

This cake was for one of Joanne's coworkers who is expecting a little girl. They've named her Blake and the theme for Blake's nursery is purple with butterflies and a flower garden.
It was Joanne's first time making the little baby booties, which we tied with a light pink satin ribbon. The calla lilies were also a first, which were a treat to make, since those were the flowers used on our wedding day.

The cake was delicious and perfect for the start of summer; it had four thin layers of white cake with a fresh raspberry mousse between the layers. The whole thing was then iced with a nice buttercream with a hint of almond and covered in fondant.

Hannah Montana

This is a chocolate cake with three layers of cake and marzipan in each tier with almond buttercream.

Maria, the birthday girl, was turning 8. She's a big Hannah Montana fan, so this design seemed ideal.

Her mother dropped off some little sugar stars and guitars as well as a funky Hannah Montana candle for the top. To add a little pizazz, we made a microphone from fondant for the topper.

We can't wait to hear from back from them to see how all of the kids liked it!

Fore!

So our friend, Jenny, asked us to help her with a cake for her aunt's husband's birthday. He is an avid golfer, so she knew that was the theme to go with. She came over and we spent our Saturday morning (and most of the afternoon) making this cake.

Sachin made the delicious moist chocolate cake and we put a layer of marzipan between the two cake layers. Then, we iced it with a delicious almond buttercream. We dyed the same icing and made a grass border along the bottom of the cake.

Jenny jumped right in and was a natural.

My favourite part was making the little golf bag.

Fondant Fever

So one of Joanne's co-workers, D, went to a wedding, a couple of weeks ago. Since then, she's been raving about how delicious fondant is.

As a treat, Joanne decided to bring some cupcakes to the office and instead of just icing them with regular icing, we went with a simple, but elegant, fondant topper.

Nothing too fancy... But they were a hit!
